Low hazard environments also need the right fire extinguisher on site. A fire may never happen, but building codes require you to have one and you would rather be safe than sorry in these instances because you do not want to have an insurance claim nightmare on your hands nor do you want to put your staff and customers in danger.

For a retail store, it is generally recommended that the appropriate class of fire extinguisher be installed closest to the area that has the greatest risk. For example, the checkout counter is a great place to have it because of all of the wires and electrical currents constantly being used throughout the day. If you have a café or commercial kitchen area part of your store, then you may need a Class K extinguisher because of any high heat used with oils and cooking. It may not be required, but you may also need to install a fire system to help suppress fires as well.

Every single commercial space is different which means there are different codes for each type of hazard and risk level.
